Issue 12
There is something about September that always makes me sit up and take notice. Despite the lingering heat from the summer, September makes me feel like it's time to get back to routines. This year, however, I am writing this intro from my summer road trip across the country, not quite back to New Hampshire yet. I am feeling the disconnect between the pace of my summer travels and the desire to get back into a feeling of stability - I'm ready to slow down figuratively and literally.
In a few short weeks, we will be launching our inaugural cohort of the Disruptive Leadership Immersive. Emerald and I have spent so many hours designing and discussing this program and we are ready to deliver it and let our participants start to experience it all. I always feel a little bit of apprehension when putting something like this into the world, but those jitters always give way to a feeling of flow and magic when we're actually in it.
Our current participants are all at different stages of their lives and stages of their careers, but everyone is excited to dive in and find ways to disrupt, resist, and lead differently. We are honored to facilitate this growth and transformation and can't wait to get started.
If you are interested in joining us, there is still time! Drop us a line by September 11th (info@liberationnexuslab.com) to let us know you're interested. We kick off on September 25th! Visit our website to learn more or reach out with any questions you may have.
In solidarity,
Erin

A Year in My Liberated Life
It’s been a year since we left the United States, and we have no interest in returning. Here’s what we’ve learned along the way, and how we’ve navigated our way into finding peace, joy, and a tiny bit of solace in this chaotic world.
I hope you enjoy it!
You Can Cage the Singer, but Not the Song
So, we thought it would be a good idea to share some songs of resistance and revolutions. Reminders that there are many of us angry, frustrated, and ready to create and be the change we require in the world. Any time you’re feeling helpless or lost in what your next move is or how to best get involved to protect yourself and your community, put one of these songs on and be reminded of the collective power that we hold.
The Benefits of Being, Learning, and Doing in Community
There is a time and place for individual learning, but being, learning, and doing in community is what leads to transformation. There is only so much you can learn by reading or attending a webinar - participating with others is what makes the ultimate difference. Everything worth doing is done in community.
Impulsive Decisions and Kid-like Play
We’re in it together, through and through. We celebrate the highs together and we navigate the lows together. We dream and ground together. We go in circles to arrive at the same place we started, only the journey around and around leads us to a new understanding of one another. We make each other better - through the hard conversations, the gentle questioning of why an emotion or issue is showing up the way it is, or in setting boundaries.
The Tongue Lies Heavy
I buy Spanish books. I take Spanish lessons. I listen to music and shows with the subtitles on, and still I do not open my mouth. I do not speak it - I cannot. I open my mouth and no sound emerges.
Identifying Your Organization’s Hard Lines:
Knowing How to React and When to Resist
Liberation Nexus Lab’s Newest Offering!
Organizational hard lines are the ethical boundaries that an organization abides by in its daily work internally and in interacting with the community. Knowing your organizational hard lines is especially important given the current political turmoil we are experiencing in the nonprofit sector and across the country.
In our work with organizations, we rely upon ethical frameworks to help guide the conversations around organizational hard lines and navigate difficult tensions while maintaining personal and organizational values. Each framework offers different perspectives and tools for making principled decisions under challenging circumstances.
We offer a facilitated session for individual organizations to build shared understanding and practice when it comes to organizational hard lines.
In this facilitated session, we will:
Explore three ethical frameworks (ethics of care, soildarity ethics, and ethics of resistance) and apply these to your specific organization
Pose questions to help your organization identify its hard lines through a variety of different scenarios
Identify policies and practices that require updating within your organization
