Issue 11

Hi Folks!

I can't believe it's officially August. That means that my family and I decided to leave the United States empire a year ago and set off on our global adventure. It has been 12 months of revelations and preparations for the world we are looking to usher in.

I say 'the world we are looking to usher in' because we are currently at a crossroads for what the future holds. Many of us are trying to figure out what the 'right thing' to do is, while caring for ourselves and our communities the best we can.

One of the ways that we are preparing for the future, is engaging with the ideas of 'disruption' in our current socio-political climate. How do we use acts of disruption to help us continue to evolve and mitigate the violence that is partnered with the inhumane nature of the current political powers that be. Our Disruptive Leadership Immersive is kicking off next month, and registration is currently open. We are encouraging folks to join that are ready to be serious about the disruption of the current state of affairs and how we are able to care for people in our workplaces, communities, and homes. I hope you join us for this transformative experience!

Disruptive Leadership Registration Open!

We exist in harmful systems. Our jobs, even when we set out to do good work, are a part of these harmful systems.

It’s our responsibility to know how to move within those systems.

Disruptive Leadership is going to show you how to do that.

“How do we usher in the future we need and deserve?”

In this unstable climate, there’s an abundance of questions that leaders must grapple with

Where are our hard lines, organizationally and personally?

What is our tolerance for doing business with authoritarian requirements?

How do oppressive systems give rise to symptoms we see in our organizations?

How do we manage while achieving our goals?

What’s the rulebook for this??

The Solution is Community & Disruption

Everything worth doing is done in community.

Disruptive Leadership is a six-month immersive that aims to solve these problems through community.

Join an intentional and real community of leaders, across organizations, in a human-centered space.

Bring real organizational issues to the table with your peers.

This is how we tend to our collective ecosystem. This is how we effect change.

You & Me, Baby, Ain’t Nothing but Mammals…

This power and control hurts women and girls, queer folks, and children. It also continues to harm men and stunt their abilities to experience the fullness of their humanity. But the idea of a matriarchal society is hard to imagine because of how power and violence has been used to keep women from positions of power in the modern world. And, because of that, we are suffering greatly. Our ability to enjoy this earth and one another is suffering.

When Cruelty is the Point

‘Alligator Alcatraz’ comes to mind as I’m thinking about how politics has paved the road for us to continue to dehumanize one another through cruel policy that allows for human suffering. The commodification of this detention facility through merchandise represents a concerning form of commercializing human suffering.

Disruption at Scale

Systems change is the accumulation of many different interactions and interconnections over time - the steady, continuous work of many different individuals and groups working on a cause from many different angles. When everything aligns and the time is right, rapid change happens all at once.

Looking Back on a Year of Liberation

We’re in it together, throuLooking Back on a Year of Liberationgh and through. We celebrate the highs together and we navigate the lows together. We dream and ground together. We go in circles to arrive at the same place we started, only the journey around and around leads us to a new understanding of one another. We make each other better - through the hard conversations, the gentle questioning of why an emotion or issue is showing up the way it is, or in setting boundaries.

Walk Wall Street First - Thank Me Later

Driving through Southern Utah was a continually stark reminder that New Hampshire has very few wide open spaces. Often times, the landscape stretches off to the horizon, distorted by the deceptive uniformity of scrub brushes. Other times, we were driving through valleys, surrounded on both sides by miles of pastures abutting mountain peaks, and only livestock for company.

Identifying Your Organization’s Hard Lines: Knowing How to React and When to Resist

Liberation Nexus Lab’s Newest Offering!

Organizational hard lines are the ethical boundaries that an organization abides by in its daily work internally and in interacting with the community. Knowing your organizational hard lines is especially important given the current political turmoil we are experiencing in the nonprofit sector and across the country.

In our work with organizations, we rely upon ethical frameworks to help guide the conversations around organizational hard lines and navigate difficult tensions while maintaining personal and organizational values. Each framework offers different perspectives and tools for making principled decisions under challenging circumstances.

We offer a facilitated session for individual organizations to build shared understanding and practice when it comes to organizational hard lines.

In this facilitated session, we will:

  • Explore three ethical frameworks (ethics of care, soildarity ethics, and ethics of resistance) and apply these to your specific organization

  • Pose questions to help your organization identify its hard lines through a variety of different scenarios

  • Identify policies and practices that require updating within your organization
